Marriott Vacation Club Announces New Resort Coming to Charleston, SC

After the launch of Marriott’s new Abound program, there was an understanding that we might not see many new resorts being developed for the next handful of years, but now we are seeing evidence that Marriott is still committed to expanding their resort portfolio.

In a recent Marriott Vacations Worldwide earnings call, details have emerged regarding a new Marriott Vacation Club resort being built in downtown Charleston, South Carolina.

I’m also excited to announce that earlier this month, we acquired a fully entitled parcel of land in Charleston, South Carolina. Overlooking the heart of the city, we intend to develop a new Marriott branded resort by early 2025, including a new on-site sales gallery.

The city of Charleston continuously ranks as one of the top owner destinations for its thriving culinary scene, easy walkability and southern charm. Located steps from the historic Charleston City Market, this new 50-unit resort will make a great destination for our owners.

With this exciting revelation, the internet has been buzzing with activity trying to glean additional insight into what may be coming, and we have been able to learn a considerable amount about the upcoming project.

What We Know So Far

Government filings have been found online that detail Marriott has purchased two adjoining lots in the French Quarter of downtown Charleston for an eye-watering amount of $16.4 million.

The two lots are located on the corner of N. Market Street and Easy Bay Street, right next to the Charleston City Market, which is a 4-block city market that is over 200 years old, featuring vendors of food, art & crafts. The total lot sizes total to just under a quarter of an acre, but it is expected that Marriott will be building a multi-story building to reach the 50-units that were announced.
