How Much Do DVC Resale Points Cost?

cost-of-dvc-pointsWhen purchasing a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) timeshare on the resale market, one of the most popular questions is simply, How much is this really going to cost me? And furthermore, given the costs, does buying DVC points on the resale market make financial sense for my family and I?

In this article, we’ll be covering some of these questions and offering our perspective as a group of licensed Real Estate professionals who have worked within the DVC resales business for over 16 years.

Initial Purchase Price

The initial price of your DVC points will be the largest cost you can expect as an owner, and is determined by two factors:

  • The home resort your DVC are deeded to &
  • The number of DVC points you would like to purchase

Simply put, costs of DVC points can range from about $70 per point to about $190 per point, again, depending on where you would like your home resort.

Resale Vs. Retail Pricing

If you’ve ever been to a presentation, you may have noticed the prices on the resale market are much lower than what you might expect to pay when buying directly from Disney. This is one of best parts of our job as a licensed broker, we’ve helped so many families take the vacations they never thought were possible until stumbling upon the resale market.

Closing Costs

Closing costs can vary based on the purchase price of the ownership you select, but can start at about $500. In order to get the most accurate costs, it’s best to inquire with the listing agent for the specific ownership you would like to purchase.

Annual Dues

Beyond the initial purchase price of buying your DVC ownership, every owner pays annual maintenance dues that are collected to maintain the impeccable quality of each resort that has become synonymous with the Disney brand.

As you may imagine, maintenance costs do vary based on the home resort and the number of points. The dues are billed as a specific dollar amount per point owned at a specific resort, and we have added a useful table below showing the various costs based on each resort.

Resale Vs. Retail Annual Dues

Resale owners will pay an identical amount of maintenance costs as the owners who pay full price initially for their ownership.

Optional Exchange Fees

Disney Vacation Club offers it’s owners the option to trade their points for other resorts outside of the Disney Resort Portfolio, by using the leading exchange companies, RCI and SFX. A $150 trading fee is charged for each trade, but this optional feature can add a huge amount of flexibility when you’d like to book in locations or times of the year not currently available within the Disney system.
