Owners and their guests are always looking forward to their booked vacations with Marriott Vacations Club, however other aspects of life may not always cooperate with a well planned getaway. That is why understanding Marriott Vacations Club reservations cancellation policy is imperative. Here is everything you need to know about the reservation cancellation process, so that you can save your points or weeks for your next travel date.
Marriott Vacation Club Cancellation Policy
Owners tend to book their vacations quite far in advance and due to that fact the sooner that you can cancel your reservation the better. When reservations are cancelled far ahead of time, there is a high likelihood that Marriott Vacations Club is able to rebook the reservation. However, the closer to the check in date, the harder it becomes for Marriott to rebook it. Therefore, there are penalties to owners who cancel close to their check in date.
Abound Club Points
Cancellation / Modification Date (prior to check-in) |
Penalty | Holding Account |
---|---|---|
61+ Days | No penalty | No – points used for a cancelled reservation are returned to your account and any points not used for a reservation modification are returned to your account |
60 – 1 Days | No penalty | Yes – points used for a cancelled reservation will be put into a holding account and any points not used for a reservation modification will be put into a holding account |
On Check-In Day | Forfeiture of all points |
All points used for the reservation are forfeited and are not returned |
The cancellation policy for Marriott Vacation Club’s Abound Club Points is as followed:
- Cancelling 60 days or more before your scheduled arrival date – All Vacation Club Points will be added back to your account.
- Cancelling 1 to 60 days before your scheduled arrival date – Vacation Club Points are returned to the member, but placed within a holding account that limits their functionality. Owners are only able to use points in a holding account for travel that is booked 60 days or less prior to check-in.
- Cancelling on your arrival date – Vacation Club Points will not be returned.
Legacy Weeks
The cancellation policy for Marriott Vacation Club Legacy Weeks is a bit different than that of Abound Club Points.
- 60 days or more from scheduled arrival date – No penalty and the usage will be returned to the Owner account.
- 59 days or less from scheduled arrival date – Cancellations are not permitted.
Covid-19 Cancellation Policy
Many owners cancelled their vacation plans in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. However, Owners that have Vacation Club Points that will expire anytime in 2021 do not need to worry. Marriott has made adjustments to their Covid-19 cancellation policy. Now those points will have an expiration deadline of December 31, 2021.
These points will also be able to be used within 120 days of arrival to book a villa reservation or certain Explorer offerings, instead of the previous 60 days of arrival.
Marriott Vacations Club has extended these policies for owners who are unable to travel, however those that still wish to enjoy their vacation have no need to worry. Marriott Vacations Club provides impeccable service to maintain a clean and safe environment for all owners and guests.
