Trading Into DVC with Interval International

Interval International Updates Its Cancellation Policy for Disney Vacation Club Members

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) has revised the cancellation policy for trades made through Interval International starting in 2025. This update introduces new guidelines for canceling exchanges and aims to ensure members plan their vacations well in advance.

In this article, we’ll provide an overview of the changes, highlight their implications, explain the cancellation policy for DVC members, and offer guidance on navigating these revised terms.

Understanding the New Policy

Key Change to the Cancellation Deadline

As of January 1st, 2025, DVC members using Interval International to exchange their vacation points must cancel their reservations at least 30 days prior to the start date of their booking.

This is a significant change from the previous policy, which allowed cancellations up to seven days before arrival without the risk of forfeiting points.

Under the new rules:

  • Cancellations made 30 days or more before the reservation start date will avoid forfeiting points.
  • Reservations canceled less than 30 days before check-in will result in the loss of points.

This policy applies to all new trades made on January 1st, 2025, and beyond. Trades confirmed prior to this date will still adhere to the prior 7-day cancellation window.

How This Policy Affects DVC Members

The revised policy impacts how members approach their vacation planning. With a longer minimum cancellation window, members need to make earlier decisions about whether to keep or cancel their Interval International bookings.

For those who may face unforeseen circumstances close to their trip date, this change could pose challenges. DVC recommends careful consideration when booking trades through Interval International to minimize the risks of point forfeiture.

Interval International’s DVC Cancellation Policy

When Cancellation Is Initiated After Confirmation Where The DVC Points Go When Does The Use Of The Points Expire?
Within 24 hours of confirmation DVC points are returned to member’s DVC account The DVC points that are returned to the member’s DVC account carry the same expiration date that they did before the exchange.
After 24 hours of confirmation but 30 days or more before check-in DVC points are not returned to DVC account, they are deposited into the member’s II account and are only available for use within II The DVC points that are deposited into the member’s II account can be used until Dec 31st, two years after the year in which the cancellation takes place
29 days or fewer before check-in DVC points are forfeited by the member Immediately upon cancellation

Disney Vacation Club members can cancel an exchange confirmation through Interval International as long as the request to cancel is made at least 30 days before the check-in date. To complete the cancellation, members must notify II of their intent to cancel within the specified timeframe.

If the cancellation is made within 24 hours of the exchange being confirmed, the DVC Points used for the transaction will be refunded to the member’s account. These points can then be used for future DVC resort bookings or other exchanges through II.

However, if the cancellation occurs more than 24 hours after the exchange confirmation, but 30 days before check-in, the DVC Points will not be refunded. Instead, members retain the right to use those points within the Exchange Program. These points remain valid until December 31st of the second calendar year following the year in which the cancellation was made.

Guidance for DVC Members

Managing Existing Reservations

If you have reservations made prior to January 1st, 2025, they will fall under the former policy, allowing a cancellation window of up to seven days before arrival. Be sure to confirm the cancellation terms specific to your booking by contacting DVC Member Services. This will ensure clarity on whether your exchange is governed by the old or new rules.

Planning Future Exchanges

Here are some tips to help members adapt to the new policy:

  • Plan Well in Advance: To avoid the risk of forfeiting points, ensure that you’re confident about your travel plans before confirming a trade through Interval International.
  • Monitor Deadlines: Keep an eye on key dates related to your booking. Adding reminders to your calendar can serve as an effective way to stay organized.
  • Contact Member Services: If you have questions about specific reservations or the policy itself, DVC Member Services can provide detailed support and guidance.

Concluding Thoughts

By requiring cancellations at least 30 days in advance, DVC encourages members to make more deliberate plans, reducing last-minute changes that could disrupt availability for others. While the new rules will most likely require some adjustments in planning, staying informed and managing bookings proactively will help ensure a smooth experience for DVC members exploring non-Disney destinations through Interval International.
