Hawaii is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States, and for good reason. The islands are full of natural beauty, interesting culture, and delicious food. However, recent travel restrictions have made it challenging for travelers to visit Hawaii. Now, many of the travel restrictions are being lifted as of March 26th, 2022. In this article, we will discuss what is changing and what you need to know before planning your next trip to Hawaii.
What Hawaiian Travel Restrictions Are Changing For Domestic Flights?
Covid-19 Testing Requirements
Previously, all visitors to Hawaii were required to have a negative Covid-19 test result before they arrive on the islands. The test must be taken within 72 hours of their flight and results must be uploaded to the Safe Travels website.
As of March 26th, 2022, travelers to the Hawaiian Islands will no longer be required to upload proof of a negative Covid-19 test when entering the islands from a domestic flight.
Quarantine Requirements
Previously, if travelers did not have a negative test result or proof of vaccination, they would be required to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. Later that quarantine period was adjusted to 5 days upon arrival.
As of March 26th, 2022, no quarantines will be required. Due to the testing requirements being lifted, there will be no quarantines enforced when entering the islands from a domestic flight.
Vaccine Requirements
Previously, vaccinated travelers would have been able to forego uploading a negative test result to the Safe Travels program and avoid any mandatory quarantines by providing proof of vaccination.
As of March 26th, 2022, with the ending of quarantine requirements, vaccinated travelers will no longer be required to upload proof of vaccination to avoid lengthy quarantines.
Mask Mandates
Previously, mask mandates were in place for the Hawaiian Islands while indoors.
As of March 26th, 2022, Hawaii will lift all mask mandates for both locals and travelers.
What Hawaiian Travel Restrictions Are Changing For International Flights?
Direct International Travel to Hawaii
Passengers arriving to Hawaii on direct international flights must still adhere to federal U.S. entry requirements, which include showing proof of an up-to-date vaccination document and negative pre-travel COVID-19 test result taken within one day of travel.
Non-Direct International Travel to Hawaii
International passengers entering the U.S. from another state or territory will be treated as domestic travelers when entering the State of Hawaii. As of March 26th, Non-direct International travelers that are flying from another U.S. state will not be required to show proof of an up-to-date vaccination document or negative pre-travel COVID-19 test result.
Conclusion
As hospitalization rates drop, and more and more people get vaccinated, Hawaii is slowly returning to normal. The travel restrictions that have been in place for the past few years are gradually being lifted. We hope this information was helpful and that it helps you plan your next Hawaiian trip.
