The team at A Timeshare Broker always has our ear to the ground and a finger on the pulse of the timeshare resale market, and recently we’ve heard rumblings that Hilton could be making some changes to the benefits that transfer to Hilton Grand Vacations buyers on the resale market. While no information contained in this article is officially confirmed by Hilton as of yet, we have decided it would be in the best interest of our clients to educate them regarding any proposed changes that could be incoming.
Hilton Open Season
It’s no secret that Hilton has changed the Open Season program dramatically over the years, but it seems that this owner benefit could be on the chopping block for new resale purchases. Owners that purchased their resale contract prior to this change are proposed to be grandfathered in, and would not lose any Open Season benefits, but those that miss the cut off date will not be eligible for this benefit.
No date has been announced for Open Season being removed for new resale purchases, but we will update this article once we have official word from Hilton regarding the cutoff date that is being set. If history is any indicator, and Hilton follows the lead of other developers that have removed benefits from resales, the cutoff date could be announced on the same day that this change takes effect.
Hilton Honors
Currently, Hilton timeshare owners, whether resale or direct buyers, are able to convert their ClubPoints into Hilton Honors points each and ever year. Now, it seems Hilton could be laying the ground work to restrict resale buyers’ ability to convert HGV ClubPoints into Hilton Honors points to an every other year basis.
Again, no date has been announced for Hilton Honors restrictions for resale buyers, and any owners that purchase before this takes effect would retain all the benefits they have currently. It’s likely that these Hilton Honors restrictions would be announced in conjunction with the sunsetting of Open Season for resale buyers.
What Would These Changes Mean For HGV Buyers?
Knowing what benefits Hilton Grand Vacations Club has to offer on the resale market, and understanding how Hilton’s changes to their resale benefits could affect you is of paramount importance for any resale buyers that are currently shopping for a contract.
Of course, Hilton Grand Vacations timeshare would still offer the ability to use ClubPoints to travel to their wide selection of top-tier HGV resorts across the globe, which is what many owners find to be the best reason to own.
